What are dental implants?

Dental implants are prosthetic teeth that act and look like natural teeth. They can replace individual teeth, several teeth, or all your teeth.

In addition to replacing your teeth and restoring your smile, dental implants also stimulate bone growth in your jaw to help maintain a stable foundation for all your remaining natural teeth and implants.

At Bellevue Dentists, Dr. Saxena offers the full scope of dental implant treatments, including single implants, zirconia implants, and more. Dental implants are often a critical part of full mouth rehabilitation programs.

What’s the process of getting dental implants?

You begin with a comprehensive dental exam, including state-of-the-art digital X-rays, to allow Dr. Saxena to evaluate your needs. He examines your jaw and checks your bone density to ensure your jawbone is strong enough to support implants.

If you have bone loss in your jaw, he can provide a bone graft, or sinus lift to strengthen your jaw before starting the rest of the implant process.

When Dr. Saxena is satisfied that your jaw can support your implants, he creates a plan to replace your teeth. Depending on your needs, he can provide same-day dental implants, or you might have several appointments for the various implantation steps.

The standard dental implant process involves three steps:

Step 1

Dr. Saxena surgically places the dental implant posts into your jaw. For conventional implants, you may need to wait for a few months for the posts to bond with your jawbone.

Step 2

Dr. Saxena attaches the abutment and, takes pictures and molds of your mouth to custom design and manufacture your crowns.

Step 3

Dr. Saxena fits the crowns onto your dental implants, checks your bite, and polishes the implants until they shine. He explains the process in more detail and includes personalized information about what you can expect.

How should I take care of dental implants?

In addition to looking and acting just like regular teeth, another benefit of dental implants is their ease of care. You brush and floss normally. While implants aren’t vulnerable to decay, you still need to have regular dental appointments so Dr. Saxena can monitor the health of your jaw and any remaining natural teeth, as well as your gums.
